Kids Say the Darndest Things....

We got a really nice snow on Christmas night and the next day.  Ended up with 8-10 inches.  That's pretty unusual around here.....and this area hadn't had snow on Christmas since 1948!

This was taken early Sunday morning.....it continued to snow all day and into Monday....amazing!

Today it was finally warm enough for the snow to pack well and Corban (7), Marissa (5) and I were making a little snow family in the front yard.

I was working on the snow mama's face when the following conversation occurred.

Corban: "Mom, can you make two snowballs?"

Me: "No, I'm busy right now."

A minute passes.  Corban is standing near me, doing nothing.

Corban: "Mom, can you make two snowballs?"

Me: "Why?  You can make snowballs just fine."

Corban: "To put right here and here. (he points to two places on the upper chest of the snowwoman. Bosom area. You get the idea.)  Last year when we made the snow family we did that."

Me: Stunned silence.  I had not participated in the building of the snow family last year and was unaware of such doings.

I thought for a moment, then made two snowballs and placed them in the proper places on the snow mama's chest and started trying to make it look discreet.

Marissa: "What are those?"

Corban: "You know......those things on women that grow really large and are all swollen-looking."

(Ahem. Apparently he's been looking at other women, because the description "really large" wouldn't be used by anyone in reference to me. Except for possibly the first 2 weeks after having a baby.  TMI, I know. Sorry.)

Marissa:  "You mean those things with n*pples on them that babies drink milk out of?"

Corban: "Yeah, those".

I managed to conceal my laughing.....just barely.

  1. :) That's so cute! My kids will talk about them too and it always seems to revolve around the milk producing 'hippos' (n*pples). I love your blog! I just found it and it's perfect for me, I also have 4kids 7 and under (3 girls and 1 boy)and we eat Clone of a Cinnabon on Christmas morning as well. LOL Looking forward to browsing through all the older posts and seeing new ones too!

  2. Hi Steph! thanks for stopping by! Mind me asking how you found me? Do you have a blog? I'd love to visit! Sounds like we have a lot in common! :)
My husband and I got a good chuckle out of your "hippos" comment...so funny!

  3. that reminds me of the time Aiden walked in on me (crawled rather) getting dressed on a sunday morning. he was maybeten months old - i just remember he was at the last stage of weaning. And his eyes lit up as he saw me putting clothes onto what my 3 year old sister calls 'your mamma milks'.
    'oh dat!?' he asked.
"this is mommy's bra" i answer.
    "oh, bwa! bwa!"
and he said his new word over and over, the whole way to church. and in church. Luke was amused. i was beet red.
Aiden often tries to help with the preaching; i was kinda afraid he's start preaching about undergarments :)
Fortunately no ones thinks that a kid that young will be saying a real word. much less that word. so no one knew *whew!* :D

  4. Lana, that is so funny! I'm amazed Aiden was talking so early! You're right, I'm sure nobody expected anything he said to be real words! Lucky you!

  6. Carrie,
So nice to "meet" you! I'm bad about commenting on blogs also....even though I LOVE it when people comment on mine. Go figure. :)

  7. @ Rebekah
I think somebody posted a link on their FB wall and I clicked on it. :) I HAD a blog, but was lousy at keeping it up and my husband is crazy about internet security so no pics of the kids :(. Now I just stalk all others! How old are all your kids? Mine are 7, 4, (almost 3) and 15 mo. We might be moving to Virginia (or WV) soon to be closer to my husbands job...any suggestions? He'll be just outside DC.

  8. Steph,
My son Corban turned 7 in October - Marissa turned 5 in October, Annika turned 3 in September, and Ellia is 13 months. Is your son the oldest also?
I'm not familiar with northern VA at all....we live about 3 hours south of DC. I'm sorry I can't be more help to you....I wish you all the best with a move! Where are you living now?
